“I came to Marfa in September 2020 for the first time and did an artist residency here. I won artist of the year in the fall competition, for my rainbows. Rainbows because it was just a dark, dark, crazy time in the world and I just felt like after every rainstorm, there’s a rainbow at the end. I want people to know to never lose hope and to know that there's always a chance for you to do whatever you want to do. When I first started painting, I thought rainbows would be perfect because rainbows are every color. I think it's just so powerful.
I hear a lot of negative things about 2020, but 2020 ended up being like the best year of my life. I am 20 years old and moved away from home for the first time. And this residency changed my life.
