Everyone’s Got a Story
Who We Are Now is a collection of contemporaneous 1st-person stories about Americans as they made their way through the COVID pandemic, as told to Michelle Fishburne between September 2020-September 2021.
"Who We Are Now: 100 Stories of What We Lost and Found During the COVID-19 Pandemic" will be published by UNC Press in March 2023. More than 100 additional stories will be posted on WhoWeAreNow.us and on Instagram and Facebook @whowearenowusa.
Note: As of May 2022, this website is exactly the way it was in March 2021, when Fishburne returned from her 12,000 miles of traveling all over the country. New content, including new stories, will be uploaded starting in September 2022.

The experience has been unique for each person. Restaurant owners, musicians, medical workers, homeless people, yoga instructors, hairstylists, teachers. The list goes on. Read their stories.
Who We Are Now's founder, Michelle Fishburne, crisscrosses the country in her RV so she can get a feeling for the communities in which people live, an important element in understanding the mosaic of the American experience.
Fishburne traveled 6,600 miles through 19 states in the fall of 2020 and is going 6,000 miles roundtrip, from coast to coast, January-March 2021. Itinerary: USA Tour. She has remained COVID-free, being careful to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
